Let Us Help You Get Tax Credits On HVAC Equipment

The tax credits being offered by the federal government for new HVAC equipment for 2011 but they are still big enough to make upgrading your system worthwhile. Installing a high-efficiency air conditioning unit can also save you more than 40 percent this summer on your electric bill. Given how hot it gets in Yuma, the savings can pay for the cost of the unit in less than six years.

To qualify for the federal tax credits on your purchase of HVAC equipment, you must buy a product that carries the Energy Star seal. The U.S. EPA has set the criteria that a new product must meet to earn the label, and it has to do with the amount of energy it conserves. For example, a new air conditioning system that has the Energy Star seal and a SEER rating of 18 will cost substantially less to operate than an A/C unit that is 10 years old.

The tax credit on a new AC unit that meets the criteria is $300. The government will also provide tax credits of $300 to people who purchase an energy-efficient heat pump, which is an excellent alternative to a gas powered furnace in warm weather spots like Yuma. The credit on a new energy efficient gas powered furnace slips to $150.
