Maintenance: What You Can Do, And What You Should Let The Experts Do

An efficient, energy-saving air conditioning system is a necessity in Southwest Arizona’s hot climate.  In order to get the maximum benefit, a well-maintained air conditioner is crucial.  Regular maintenance not only increases the longevity of the unit but also saves you up to 25 percent in energy costs. These are bonus bucks for a little work and time on your part.

Some maintenance tasks are safe for you to perform provided you are comfortable working around electrical equipment. Always caution on the side of safety when performing maintenance tasks involving electrical power. With the exception of changing filters, power off the unit prior to maintenance.

Maintenance Checklist

  • Monthly – Change the filter according to your product manual and/ or the advice of your service technician. There are many types of filters for newer units, such as media filters that only require yearly replacements. Most of the common filters are changed monthly.
  • Bi-annually – Visually inspect the outside unit for debris, insect nests, leaves and other vent blockage that reduces the airflow.  Remove as much debris as possible with a broom or brush, taking care not to damage the fins.
  • Yearly – Check the outside wiring to ensure there are no cuts, gnawed or damaged lines.

By performing these simple maintenance tasks, you can rely on your air conditioner to perform as intended. And you may save a little cash as well!

All other cooling, cleaning and maintenance undertaken should be handled by your air conditioner maintenance service provider as a yearly inspection, or as needed if an issue arises. Contact Hansberger Refrigeration and Electric for all your air conditioning maintenance services.
