The Ductless Mini-Split: A Neat Little System For Your Addition Or New Home

Ductless mini-splits provide a perfect solution when you’re trying to heat and cool a new addition to your home that your current ductwork system cannot reach.  They provide many benefits over traditional forced-air systems that will help you stay comfortable in any part of your home.

Ductless mini-splits are composed of up to four indoor air handler units, each can be connected to a single outdoor compressor or one for each. Since there is no actual ductwork that the air has to travel through, no air gets lost, making them highly efficient.

You get greater control over the temperature in these areas because you can control the temperature of each air handler independently.  You do not have to worry about bothering people in another part of the room when deciding what your ideal temperature is.

These systems also help you conserve energy so that you aren’t spending too much money to keep your new rooms comfortable.  When leaving a room that’s cooled by one of the air handlers, simply shut it off so that you aren’t paying to keep an empty room comfortable.  Making it even easier, many models come with remote controls that make this as easy as flipping a light switch.

Ductless mini-splits are also versatile.  The indoor air handlers can be hung from the ceiling or walls or just placed near the floor — whatever fits your needs.  And because the compressor can be placed up to 50 feet away, a single unit can be used to service rooms on opposite ends of your home.

Because there are so few components involved, the installation is a simple process.  All that is typically required is a 3-inch hole drilled in the wall of any living space requiring an air handler for the piping to pass through.
