Think Your Air Conditioning System Has Lived Out Its Life? 4 Ways To Tell

If you own a home in Yuma, you know how important it is to have a working air conditioning system. If you think your A/C unit may be on its last legs, check it for these four red flags to see if you need to have it replaced.

  1. Constant repairs – When something goes wrong with your air conditioning system, it makes sense to have it repaireThink Your Air Conditioning System Has Lived Out Its Life? 4 Ways To Telld. It is a less expensive option compared to replacing your unit altogether. However, if you’ve had to get your A/C unit repaired on more than one occasion in the past year, it may be time to replace the unit. Replacing your old air conditioner with a more energy-efficient unit will end up saving you money in the long run.
  2. Energy bills – If your energy bills have been increasing over the past few months, there’s a good chance it’s because your air conditioning system isn’t operating correctly. This is a sign that it needs to be replaced. Purchase an A/C unit with a higher seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER). If you had an old 8 or 9 SEER unit, replacing it with a 15 SEER A/C could potentially save you almost 47 percent off your energy bill over a five-year period.
  3. Humidity – If you have an air conditioner that’s too large for your home, or isn’t working properly, it may struggle to control humidity. Humidity can also be caused by leaky ductwork or a clogged condensate drain. Have a trusted HVAC technician advise you on whether the humidity issues can be addressed with a repair.
  4. Age – If your air conditioner is older than 10 years, it’s probably time to replace it. Newer models are much more energy efficient. Replace it with an Energy Star-certified model in order to save money on energy bills and future repair bills.

These are all signs that it may be time for you to replace your air conditioning system. For more information on repairing, maintaining or replacing the air conditioning system in your Yuma area home, please contact us at Hansberger Refrigeration and Electric Company.
