Living in southwest Arizona means that you’ll probably only use your furnace two or three months a year, and even then mainly at night or sporadically. But when it gets cold, you’re definitely going to want to turn that thermostat up. Make sure your furnace is in good shape by scheduling a fall furnace inspection. Following are some tips to prepare for the inspection:
- First of all, check your furnace to see if it works (since it’s probably been several months since you’ve used it). If it doesn’t, check the thermostat to make sure it’s set correctly. If it is, then check all of your switches, fuses and circui
t breakers to make sure that your system is getting power. You should also change the air filter if it’s dirty. - Be able to locate your furnace, thermostat and circuit breakers when your contractor asks to see them. It might sound funny but some people take these things for granted.
- Take down the model numbers and brand names of all of your equipment in case the contractor needs them.
- If you’re having problems with your furnace or with any of your HVAC system, let your contractor know. Be able to explain what you think is causing the problem, what the symptoms of the problem are, and how long it’s been an issue.
- Make sure that the area around your furnace is cleared. You shouldn’t keep anything stored around your furnace anyway, especially if it’s gas-powered. If you have furniture or storage boxes blocking the way, move them so the contractor doesn’t have trouble reaching the unit.
- Have access to a phone on the day of the appointment in case the contractor needs to call you.
