Think It’s Still Too Hot for Fall Maintenance? Get on a Schedule Anyway

One mistake people often make when it comes to fall maintenance is to wait right until the fall season actually starts. In fact, the waning days of summer is the best time to prepare your home for cooler fall weather. Early preparation gives you an opportunity to make critical repairs before the cooler temperatures of the fall season.

Of course, you want to know what you can do to make your home ready for the seasons ahead. The following tips will help you stay ahead of the curve as you conduct fall maintenance throughout your home:Hansberger 9.17.12

  • Have your HVAC system professionally inspected by a licensed contractor. With proper inspection and servicing, your heat pump or furnace will be able to operate at optimal efficiency throughout the cooler season.
  • Make sure your home is properly sealed and insulated. Nearly half of your home’s energy costs come from heating and cooling. Sealing air leaks from windows and doors will help save you plenty of money on your fall and winter energy bills.
  • Inspect your HVAC system’s air filter and change it as needed. A clogged filter not only makes it run less efficiently, it can also damage your system if left unchanged.
  • If your home relies on a heat pump, make sure the evaporator and condenser coils are cleaned thoroughly. Dirty coils can cause your heat pump to work harder and less efficiently to maintain optimal home comfort.
