Contractor Quotes So Similar It’s Hard to Choose? Here’s How

You’ve taken the first step. You have several contractor quotes to replace your HVAC system. Great. You’re headed in the right direction. The problem? All the contractor quotes are similar. What do you do now? You choose the best contractor. Here’s how.

Choose Experience

10.04.13Check with your local Better Business Bureau for ratings and comments. Visit the websites of the contractors and go to their “About” pages. Read their biography. How long have they been in business? Do they specialize in the work you need? Check for referrals. Do they have testimonials from satisfied customers? Are they up to date on the latest technology, design and developments in HVAC equipment? Ask these questions:

Choose Professionalism

HVAC technicians should be certified and comply with state and local codes and regulations. They should carry the proper business and workers’ compensation insurance. In addition, ask the following questions:

  • The contractor’s license number
  • Are the technicians NATE certified?
  • Are they members of Air Conditioning Contractors of America?

Choose Care

When all things are equal – price, experience, and professionalism – look for a contractor who cares. This may sound “corny” but it’s important. Contractors that do the best job are ones that take time to listen to the problems you’re having with your HVAC system. For instance, which rooms are drafty, which rooms never seem to cool off, whether you or household occupants have allergy or other health problems related to indoor air quality, etc.

Good contractors take the time to listen to your concerns and desires related to home comfort and energy savings. Contractors that try to rush this part of the process don’t have your best interests in mind.

Choose the Best

By taking these things into consideration and asking these questions, you will be able to choose from the various contractor quotes.
