The Revised NATE Exam: More Proof That Your Tech Is the Best

When you know that the technician installing or servicing your cooling and heating equipment has passed the revised NATE test, you know more than a thing or two about his or her training and expertise.

Short for North American Technician Excellence, NATE is a program sponsored by the HVAC industry to certify the knowledge and skills of field technicians – the front line of heating and cooling service. Recently, a revised NATE test came into use, to upgrade what was already a high-quality testing program.

Since its inception in 1997, NATE has certified more than 30,000 field techs as well as the contractors that employ them. TThe Revised NATE Exam: More Proof That Your Tech Is the Besto earn NATE certification, candidates must pass a rigorous testing process in both theory and hands-on knowledge as well as an exam in a chosen specialty area of the industry such as air conditioning or heat pumps. In addition, the technician must pursue a minimum number of classroom hours over a five-year span to maintain certification.

For the homeowner, doing business with a contractor that employs NATE-certified technicians provides a number of assurances and benefits:

  • Proper installation and maintenance means lower operating costs.
  • Fewer callbacks, a job done right the first time.
  • Quick, efficient service with minimal disruption to your household.
  • Equipment operating at full manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Proper operation of standard safety devices verified.
  • Helpful advice and answers from an informed professional.

NATE and its industry sponsors continually re-evaluate the certification process to keep in step with technical advances and the changing demands of the job. In 2013, the revised NATE test now consolidates the core knowledge examinations relating to Service and Installation into a single comprehensive test on all facets. In addition, content of certain specialty exams has been upgraded to reflect changes in technology and industry standards. These improvements were instituted after careful review and recommendation by NATE’s Technical Committee consisting of 20 HVAC professionals and 70 experts in individual subject matter.

Family-owned since 1952, Hansberger Refrigeration and Electric Company serves Yuma and surrounding areas with home comfort technology. We’re proud to include technicians who have passed the revised NATE test on our staff of installation and service pros.
