Watch for These Signs: Could be It’s Time for a New A/C

If you’re tired of your air conditioning unit breaking down during the height of our blazing Southern Arizona summer, consider replacing it rather than spending money on repairs. In fact, the latest air conditioning systems are more energy efficient than ever, so you’ll not only get a trouble-free A/C; you’ll get one that lowers your monthly energy bills.

Here are some signs that indicate it’s high time for a new A/C rather than trying to breathe second life into your old air conditioning unit.Watch for These Signs: Could be It's Time for a New A/C

  • Your A/C is more than 10-15 years old: If you have been trying to cool your home with an A/C that is over 10 or 15 years old, it is time to invest in an Energy Star certified air conditioner. Such a cooling system will save you ample money on your cooling costs.
  • Your cooling costs are skyrocketing: If you find your energy bills going south during our eternally hot summers in Arizona, it probably means you’re keeping the A/C running continuously. It’s just not cooling efficiently and effectively. Running your A/C for extended periods of time will reflect in higher energy bills.
  • Your A/C breaks down frequently: If you and the A/C mechanic are good friends, it’s time to replace the system rather than spending money on frequent repairs. A good rule of thumb is that it repairs approach half the cost of a new system, it’s time to upgrade.
  • Your cooling unit is extremely noisy: If the air conditioner starts making loud noises, it may signal a serious issue with the air handler – or if the noise is outside, the condensing/compressor unit. A faulty compressor is something like having to replace a motor in your car; getting a new car is usually a better alternative. The same with your A/C.
