Although the calendar eventually signals an end to summer, the Southwest Arizona sun usually doesn’t get the message. Even though you’ll likely employ your A/C much of the year here in Yuma, it’s still a great idea to keep it on a regular A/C maintenance schedule. As summer turns into fall, schedule a professional maintenance appointment to ensure optimal performance. Here are some of the tasks the technician will complete:
- Clean coils: Dirty coils in the evaporator and condenser will cause your A/C to run less efficiently. Your technician will extend the life and efficiency of your A/C by cleaning the coils regularly.
- Check refrigerant levels: Proper refrigerant levels are necessary to keep the unit running efficiently. The technician
will adjust the refrigerant level, and it was too low, will look for any leaks and repair them. - Inspect filters: Simply cleaning or replacing dirty filters is important both for efficiency and air quality. A clean filter will allow proper airflow, and remove airborne particulates. This is a chore that you should do yourself on a regular schedule.
- Tighten electrical connections: Faulty or loose electrical connections can cause a potentially hazardous situation.
- Check system controls: Make sure all the controls and settings of the A/C work properly, such as shutting off and coming on as set.
- Check the drain: A clogged condensate drain can result in water damage and high humidity in your home. A quick check of the condensate drain of your air handler could save you from a soggy mess.
- Lubricate moving parts: Keep moving gears or parts running smoothly by adding appropriate amounts of lubricant.
