Can a Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump Benefit Your Yuma Home?

Because of the climate in our Yuma area, it’s one of the most ideal places to install a ductless mini-split heat pump. Ductless systems are very similar to central heat pumps, minus the ductwork needed for delivering conditioned air. Mini-splits work well in spaces where it’d be difficult to extend ductwork, like garages and newly added rooms. Can a Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump Benefit Your Yuma Home?

Heat pumps are capable of both heating and cooling, and in our mild climate, a ductless system can keep any space where it’s placed comfortable year-round. These systems have two primary components — an air handler to circulate conditioned air and an outdoor condenser, just like a central heat pump. A narrow conduit connects the air handler and the condenser, supplying the refrigerant and power.

Their primary advantages include:

Energy efficiency. Besides meeting the same efficiency requirements of central heat pumps, ductless mini-split heat pumps have even greater efficiency since there’s no air or thermal losses through ductwork. By nature, central HVAC systems have some degree of energy loss via small air leaks in the ductwork.

If ducts are not well insulated, the air blowing through the ducts can warm or cool before reaching its destination, depending on the season. This technology is very state-of-the-art, making them among the most energy efficient heat pumps available.

Easier installation. Running ductwork can add a layer of complexity if you’re installing new HVAC equipment. With a mini-split, all your HVAC professional has to do is place the condenser, the air handler and connect the conduit.

Personal control. Each air handler for a mini-split system has its own thermostat, making it easy to manage the temperature independent of the rest of your home. They can be turned off completely for even greater savings when you’re not using a room.
