Learn Which Factors Affect Home Comfort the Most

Learn Which Factors Affect Home Comfort the MostKeeping your home comfortable regardless of the weather outside is important, and it goes beyond just controlling the temperature indoors. Here are the four factors that affect home comfort and keep your Yuma home pleasant.

The Temperature

Of the four, temperature is the most critical of the factors that affect home comfort. When it’s too hot or too cold inside your home, it’s uncomfortable and less enjoyable. Temperature is variable and can be influenced by a number of things, including drafty windows or doors, air leaks in exterior walls, heat from appliances, body heat and the amount of shade or sunlight in a room. A good thermostat makes it easier to control the temperature and adjust it as needed.

Humidity Levels

The humidity level of your home can also greatly affect how comfortable it feels. In the winter, a little added humidity can make it feel warmer, but during the summer, it can make it downright oppressive in your home. Controlling the amount of humidity in your home with humidifiers, dehumidifiers or air conditioning is critical to your comfort; it can also help reduce mold growth and other indoor air quality problems.

Air Quality

Dust, pollen, pet dander, germs, mold spores and other airborne particles can cause symptoms such as itchy eyes, stuffy noses, sore throats and breathing problems, especially in those who suffer from asthma or allergies. Changing the air filter in your HVAC system regularly can help improve indoor air quality and comfort. Other options for improving air quality include air cleaners, ventilation systems and UV germicidal lamps.

Control Systems

Advanced thermostats, such as programmable models or WiFi-enabled thermostats, can offer greater flexibility in controlling the temperature and humidity throughout the day while saving you money on heating and cooling costs. Adding a zoning system can allow you to control several sections of your home individually.
