Indoor plants add color and life to your home. But did you know that some can also improve your indoor air quality (IAQ)? Here are some plants that you can add to your home to improve air quality:
English ivy
NASA named the English ivy the top air-filtering indoor plant. Its dense foliage absorbs formaldehyde – an indoor pollutant found in cleaning products, synthetic carpet dyes, and wood floorboard resins. It also reduces particles of airborne fecal matter.
Dracaena
The dracaena plant comes in all sizes, shapes, and colors. The one that’s red-edged is helpful in eliminating formaldehyde, xylene, and trichloroethylene, which can be introduced to your home by sealers, varnishes, and lacquers.
Spider plant
If you’re a beginner gardener, this is an excellent option because it’s one of the easiest indoor plants to grow. It does fine in indirect sunlight. It will also give you the added benefit of fewer airborne benzene and formaldehyde molecules.
Golden pothos
With leaves that are dark green with golden streaks, this fast-growing vine is an attention-grabbing addition to your home. It’s great for tackling carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, and benzene.
Boston fern
This plant has feather-like leaves that have a decorative appearance. It thrives under high humidity, damp soil, and bright light. It’s well suited to hanging baskets and is excellent at eliminating formaldehyde.
Bamboo palm
This sun-loving plant is known for its height and effortless elegance. It’s a superstar at filtering out formaldehyde.
