The two most important things you can do as the owner of a new HVAC system are reading the owner’s manual and registering your HVAC product with the manufacturer. Being familiar with your system and its warranty provisions will help you get the most from it, and registering it promptly protects you from covered breakdowns.

The warranty acts like an insurance policy. It covers parts and labor for specified time periods as long as all of its conditions are met by you. It can save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in repair costs that are covered. The few minutes it takes to register may have a big payoff in the future should you have system problem.

How to Do It

The warranty information will be part of the paperwork your HVAC contractor gives you during the installation process. It should explain thoroughly how and when to go about registering your HVAC system. Sometimes the contractor will take care of it for you, but if it’s up to you, make sure you:

  • Register it in time. The manufacturer will state how many days after installation you have to submit the information, and their preferred method. Most manufacturers accept online registration, which is the easiest. If you register by mail, make a copy of the paperwork you submit and note the day you send it, or send it through registered mail.
  • Include all the details. Don’t skip anything the manufacturer requires. They will want to know the name of the HVAC contractor you used, along with addresses and phone numbers.
  • Be sure to keep the warranty information handy. If you have to have warranty work done or are selling your home while it’s still active, you’ll need to review the terms and conditions. Keep the paperwork or your sign-in name and password in a secure place.

Taking care of registering your HVAC warranty will give you the financial protections a new system promises. For more information, contact Hansberger Refrigeration and Electric Company, providing trusted HVAC services for Yuma-area homeowners.
