Fall Indoor Air Issues and How to Counter Them

Fall Indoor Air Issues and How to Counter ThemWe all want great indoor air quality in our homes, but the truth is that many homeowners have no idea how to make things better. This is especially true when you take into consideration the changing seasons and all the responsibilities (like back-to-school events!) that come with it.

To help you out, we’ve compiled a few tips to improve the air quality in your home this fall:

Replace the Air Filter

Your system’s air filter helps keep contaminants including dust, viruses, bacteria, etc. from re-entering your home’s air. When the filter gets clogged up, it doesn’t work as efficiently. Therefore, it’s important that you check the filter every month and replace it as needed.

Install UV Lights

If you want to effectively kill volatile contaminants before they enter your air, you can’t go wrong with the installation of an ultraviolet light system. These lights are placed inside your HVAC system and effectively “kill” all contaminants that are exposed to them by breaking them down at the molecular level, thereby making them inert. When positioned in certain areas of the HVAC system, they’ll even stop mold growth.

Pick Up a Vacuum with a HEPA Filter

Many vacuums do a respectable enough job removing the dust and debris in your carpet, but they can also stir up particulates that are unhealthy for your household. What you need is one equipped with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter, which will remove the vast majority of contaminants while you’re cleaning up.

Purchase an Air Cleaner

While this isn’t exactly a cheap option, it’s certainly an effective one. Air cleaners do a great job in removing harmful particulates, and is especially helpful with those already suffering from respiratory issues. You can get a single air cleaner and move it around, but if you can afford it, the best strategy is to stick one in each primary room of your home.
