What’s Wrong with the HVAC Components Inside Your Unit?

It’s important that your HVAC components are always operating at full capacity so that your home can be properly conditioned. When something goes wrong, it’s important that you’re able to identify the most likely suspect. Let’s discuss some problems that could arise and which internal components may need to be replaced as a result.

Lukewarm or Hot Air

Lukewarm air is often indicative of a low level of refrigerant, which is typically an easy fix. Just keep in mind that refrigerant must be handled with care, so be sure to get a qualified HVAC technician to fix it. If your system is blowing warm or hot air when you turn it on, this is a sign of a bigger problem, such as a damaged compressor, that will need to be replaced.

Strange Noises

If the noise is a slight rattling or something small like that, then you probably have a loose part inside that needs to be tightened up. More severe sounds like grinding or screeching, however, most likely indicate a serious problem that will lead to full replacement of the system.

Bad Odors

Strange odors coming from your HVAC unit could be caused by anything from burning dust to mold inside your ductwork. If the smell persists or seems to be electronic in nature, stop using the system immediately and call a qualified technician for help.

Short Cycling

If your air conditioner is turning off and on more than it should, this puts unneeded stress on the system and could lead to serious issues. Whether it’s a blown fuse or something more urgent, you should have a professional check it out.

Lack of Airflow

The first thing to check when you experience a lack of airflow is to see if your filter is clogged up with debris and needs to be switched out. If that’s not it, then this could be another sign that your compressor has been damaged or worn out.
