High-Tech HVAC Products for High-Tech Month

High-Tech HVAC Products for High-Tech MonthThere doesn’t seem to be any aspect of our lives that hasn’t been touched by high-tech gadgetry, and that includes the HVAC industry. These days, high-tech HVAC products are making inroads into our homes, boosting comfort, convenience and energy efficiency.

Here are a few that might interest you in January — High-Tech Month.

Air Quality Monitor

You probably already have a carbon monoxide monitor and a smoke detector, but how about an air quality monitor? These devices check for particulate matter, humidity, carbon dioxide and toxic chemicals such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The device’s lights will alert the homeowner when a substance reaches a critically high level.

Smart Thermostat

Smart or Wi-fi thermostats are becoming more common. They are operated by an app on a smart device, and allow the user to raise or lower the thermostat from close by or far away. Depending on the type of HVAC system you’ve installed and the sensors that came with it, you may be able to monitor humidity also; send alerts to yourself about changing weather conditions; and send alerts to the system when you’re approaching home so the system can turn on and make the home more comfortable.

Energy-Use App

Some power companies now make apps available along with smart meters that allow customers to monitor their energy usage.

Air Purifier

Homeowners are becoming more concerned about indoor air quality these days. In some cases, air purifiers or air cleaners are the solution. These appliances are designed to deal with a variety of pollutants, including mold, pet dander, dust, bacteria, viruses, VOCs, smoke and others. For instance, UVGI (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation) lights are installed in HVAC systems to deal with mold spores and other living organisms; charcoal-activated air cleaners help with tobacco smoke and other fumes; while air purifiers with filtration systems, both portable and in-home models, deal with a broad range of other pollutants. Air purifiers may also use ions to clean the air.
