Clean Your Home
The easiest way of eliminating this sickening smell is by cleaning. First, you have to narrow down the areas where the smell originates from. Then, throw away any papers and pieces of cardboard you come across in these mildew-infested area, since they can harbor spores. Wash these areas with water before leaving them to dry. After cleaning, crack a nearby window so that the smell can waft away.
Use a Dehumidifier
Keep a functioning dehumidifier in areas that smell the most. It will help get rid of any humidity that causes mildew. An ionizer is just as efficient at keeping mildew in check. It works by eliminating damp ions from the air, thus giving it a fresh smell.
Use Odor Absorbers
Odor absorbers can get rid of unwanted smells in your home. The cheapest odor absorber is charcoal briquettes. Put them inside an empty coffee can and place it near any smelly areas. They will suck odor and absorb any moisture from the air.
For charcoal briquettes to remain effective, they need to be replaced at least once a month. Baking soda is also effective in eliminating mildew smells. This renowned odor eliminator can get rid of any lingering smells and leave your home smelling fresh.
Cat litter is another commonly used odor absorber. Just place a tray of cat litter in the mildew-infested area. However, you will need to replace it at least once every fortnight.
