Making Your HVAC Unit Bug Proof

Making Your HVAC Unit Bug ProofWhether it’s flies, cockroaches or mosquitoes, no one likes pests to get inside their home. Not only are they annoying and dirty, they can be downright dangerous since several types carry germs and disease. What can you do to bug proof your home to keep them away from your HVAC unit and out of your house? We have a few quick tips to help you out:

Seal Cracks and Gaps

If you’ve ever wondered how so many bugs find their way into your home, look no further than cracks and gaps throughout your home. The biggest culprits are the edges around your doors and windows, so sealing those with either caulk, spray foam, or weather stripping should be the first thing on your to-do list. From there, check the foundation of your home to check for any old wood or bricks where cracks and holes might have developed over time.

Protect Your HVAC Unit

The next thing you should take a look at is your HVAC unit. Bugs can find their way into heating and cooling equipment, which can clog up the air filter over time. Plus, the gaps that are often found around a wall unit are big enough for small bugs to enter through. If you’re having problems with this particular task, call a professional.

Clean Up Your Yard

Pests are attracted to dirt and debris, so a certain amount of pests in your yard is simply something you won’t be able to avoid. That being said, there are a few things you can do to keep them under control. If you have any piles of debris sitting around, removing them will prevent several types of bugs from accumulating in great numbers. The second you should do is remove any standing water from the yard, which will keep mosquitoes and other types of pests away.
